The AI Meal Camera
The AI Meal Camera is one of TRANSFORMR's most popular features. Instead of manually searching for food items and portion sizes, you snap a photo and the AI handles the rest.
Requirements
- Pro, Elite, or Partners plan — the Meal Camera is not available on the Free plan
- Camera permissions granted to TRANSFORMR
- iOS 16+ or Android 10+
How to Use It
- On the dashboard, tap the 🍎 food icon in the quick-log bar (or go to the Eat tab and tap Log Meal).
- Tap Camera (vs. "Search" for manual logging).
- Point your camera at the meal. You don't need to capture every item in one shot — multiple items on a plate work well.
- Tap the shutter button.
- The AI analyzes the photo and returns a list of identified items with estimated weights/portions within about 3 seconds.
- Review the results. Tap any item to adjust the portion size or remove it if the AI made a mistake.
- Tap Log Meal to save.
What Gets Logged
For each identified food item, TRANSFORMR logs:
- Calories
- Protein (grams)
- Carbohydrates (grams)
- Fat (grams)
- Fiber (when available)
This data feeds into your daily macro totals, weekly nutrition trends, and the Body-Business Correlation analysis.
Tips for Best Results
- Good lighting dramatically improves accuracy — take photos in natural light when possible
- Flat lay shots (overhead view of a plate) work better than angled shots
- For mixed dishes like salads or stir-fries, the AI estimates by visual proportion, which is inherently approximate (±15%)
- Packaged foods: scanning the barcode (tap the barcode icon) is more accurate than photographing the food itself
- Restaurant meals: the AI pulls from a database of common restaurant portions and dishes
Accuracy
The AI Meal Camera is trained on millions of food images. For whole, unprocessed foods (fruits, vegetables, proteins), accuracy is typically within 10% of the actual macros. For complex prepared dishes, expect ±15–20%. Accuracy improves over time as you correct the AI's estimates — your corrections train your personal model.
Fixing Mistakes
If the AI misidentifies a food or gets the portion wrong:
- Tap the item in the review screen.
- Edit the name or portion size.
- Save. Your correction is logged and influences future predictions.
